statement

Wei-Chih Liu is a composer born in Hualien, Taiwan. His music engages with the turbulence and stillness of lived experience, oscillating between the construction of illusion and the direct probing of reality. His work focuses on the complexity and purity that arise from sensory exploration, seeking points of anchorage within an ever-changing world.

additional Information

Wei-Chih Liu received a Master’s degree in Composition from Taipei National University of the Arts, Department of Music, and a Bachelor’s degree in Composition from Soochow University, Department of Music (Taiwan). During his studies, he was mentored in composition by Chung-Kun Hung, Yu-Shu Chang, Christopher Roberts, and Jou-Li Chen.

In 2016, he was selected for the Mentoring programme, a collaborative initiative between the Taiwan Music Institute and the Péter Eötvös Contemporary Music Foundation, and participated in advanced training in Europe. Through composition courses and programs both in Taiwan and abroad, he received guidance from composers including Péter Eötvös, Toshio Hosokawa, Unsuk Chin, Pierluigi Billone, Hwang-Long Pan, Xiaoyong Chen, and Kee-Yong Chong.

In 2024, he was selected for the "Ministry of Culture (Taiwan)’s Grant for Cultural Professionals to Participate in International Artist Residencies" to undergo a residency at the Cité internationale des arts in Paris, France.

Beyond Taiwan, his works have been performed in the United States, Germany, France, the Netherlands, Italy, Austria, Hungary, Singapore, China, Hong Kong, and elsewhere.
